Definition
A stablecoin peg watch compares the price you can actually trade to the peg, and notes whether redemption is something you can do or only something the issuer describes. It is a risk alarm for balances you have, not a tour of every stable.
Who it is for
Traders who hold stables as cash or post them as collateral and need a peg break to be loud.
Job to be done
Alert when a stable you use leaves the peg band you set, or when the pool you would exit through thins out.
Human gate. A peg alert tells you to look. Moving collateral or swapping is a separate decision you make on the venue, not in the chat.
Inputs and outputs
Inputs
- Stables you hold or post, and the chain or venue where they sit
- Your peg band, in percent
- The pool or order book you would use to exit
- What you know about redemption: who can redeem, and whether that includes you
Outputs
- Alert when price leaves the band or depth drops through your floor
- The print, the pool, and the time
- A line on redemption: available, paused, or unknown
- No automatic swap
Step-by-step workflow
- 01List balances that matterCash, collateral, and LP positions. Ignore stables you do not hold and do not need as an exit.
- 02Name the exit marketThe pool or book you would hit, not a generic index. Record chain and venue.
- 03Set a band and a depth floorWrite both numbers. An alert without a depth floor will fire late, after the pool is already gone.
- 04Record the redemption pathWho can redeem, in the issuer’s words, and whether a pause is currently announced. Unknown stays unknown.
- 05Alert on break or thin depthEither condition pages you. The message includes both numbers even if only one broke.
- 06Human gateYou verify the pool yourself before you move size. The watch does not swap, redeem, or repay.
Suggested tool types
These are categories of tools, not product picks. Crypto Agent Desk does not certify vendors and does not run an affiliate program.
| Type | Why it is here |
|---|---|
| Price feed for the pool or book you would use | A composite index can hide the market you are stuck in. |
| Pool depth or order-book snapshot | A peg inside a tiny pool is not an exit. |
| Issuer status page or docs | Redemption pauses are announcements, not price prints. |
| Alert transport | Peg events are rare and should not sit in a noisy channel. |
Risks and failure modes
Watching the wrong market
A stable can look pegged on one pool and be off on the chain where your collateral sits.
Redemption you cannot use
If only authorized firms can redeem, your exit is the pool. Do not let the brief assume you are the firm.
False comfort from a tight print
Depth can vanish between checks. A daily snapshot is not a guarantee you can lift size.
Operator notes
Peg watches fail when they follow a logo instead of the balance. Start from the wallet or the margin account, then find the exit.
What to store per stable
Asset, chain, where it is posted, exit pool, peg band, depth floor, redemption path, last print, last check time.
Prompt you can paste
I hold these stables: BALANCE_LIST.
Exit markets: EXIT_LIST.
Peg band: BAND. Depth floor: FLOOR.
Latest prints: PRINTS.
Issuer notes: NOTES or "none".
Alert only if price leaves the band or depth is under the floor.
Include redemption status as available, paused, or unknown.
Do not tell me to swap or repay.
Done when
You know which pool you would hit, and the alert stays silent while that pool is inside your band.
FAQ
Is a small deviation always an alert?
Only outside the band you set. Tight bands on illiquid pools will train you to ignore the channel.
Should the agent explain the cause?
It can attach a source if one exists. It should not invent a narrative for a print. Cause is often unknown in the first hour.
What about stablecoins used only inside one app?
Watch the market where you can leave that app. An internal price can stay pegged while the exit pool is not.
